This new-build residence in Vancouver’s Kits Point neighbourhood was designed for an empty-nester couple seeking a refined yet comfortable home that reflects both their evolving lifestyle and a timeless sense of elegance. The 2,180-square-foot home blends traditional detailing with modern sensibilities, offering a carefully curated balance of classic craftsmanship and contemporary restraint.

From the outset, the vision for the home was to create a tranquil, layered sanctuary—a place where every detail feels intentional and personal. The design strategy embraced the home’s modest footprint by maximizing both function and aesthetic impact, using thoughtful architectural elements and a rich, sophisticated palette. Coffered ceilings, panelled walls, and custom millwork evoke a sense of heritage, while clean-lined furniture, curated artwork, and bold lighting choices bring a fresh modernity.

Materials and finishes were chosen to reflect the couple’s taste for understated luxury. Marble surfaces, velvet upholstery, and unlacquered brass fixtures provide texture and a sense of patina that will age beautifully over time. Throughout the home, a soft, neutral base is punctuated with deep charcoals, warm woods, and rich accents, creating visual contrast without sacrificing serenity.

The wine room, uniquely nestled within the stairwell, serves as both a functional and artistic centrepiece. Its design was inspired by vintage European elevators, featuring iron mesh doors and a vertically oriented structure that acts as a visual anchor connecting the main and upper levels. This nod to old-world design seamlessly complements the contemporary framework of the home, adding narrative depth and a bespoke character.

Functionally, each space is designed for everyday ease, yet styled with a sense of occasion. From the airy, light-filled kitchen that overlooks a lush garden, to the serene, spa-like bathroom with its sculptural tub and polished stone, the interiors invite both daily rituals and intimate gatherings. The bedroom and upstairs lounge offer cozy, restorative retreats, while the overall flow supports quiet living with the potential for entertaining.

In essence, this home is a celebration of refined living, rooted in personal history and elevated by thoughtful design. It honours tradition while embracing the contemporary, providing its owners with a deeply tailored, enduringly beautiful environment in one of Vancouver’s most cherished neighbourhoods.
